Washington D.C, 19 January 2021 - Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the US Marko Djuric spoke today with the representatives of Every Woman Treaty, an umbrella organization gathering more than 1,700 women’s rights advocates, including 840 organizations in 128 countries.

Ambassador Djuric expressed his support for the work of this significant organization in their efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

„Through direct implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, better known as the Istanbul Convention, Serbia has become one of the European leaders in ending gender-based violence", said Djuric.

According to the Ambassador, Serbia implemented 42,900 urgent measures expelling the violators from their homes, and passed 35,834 individual protection plans by 2019 inclusive.

Ambassador Djuric also pointed out that Serbian society strongly supports any initiative aimed at ending gender-based violence.

„By continuously advancing national legislation during the governments of Aleksandar Vucic and Ana Brnabic, as well as by implementing relevant international regulations in this field, Serbia has demonstrated a responsible and serious approach in opposing any form of violence against women and domestic violence", Djuric concluded.
