Washington D.C, 25 January 2021 – Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the US Marko Djuric had a meeting with Mr. Stuart Jones, President for Regions and Corporate Affairs at Bechtel who is in charge of monitoring the construction of Morava Corridor Motorway Project connecting central Serbia and Pan-European Corridors 10 and 11.

Djuric and Jones expressed mutual satisfaction over the current dynamics of the construction works at the Morava Corridor which shall connect Western and Eastern Serbia, ie. all major cities in Central Serbia between Cacak and Pojate – Krusevac, Kraljevo, Trstenik, Vrnjacka Banja.

Jones conveyed thankfulness of the Bechtel management for the excellent cooperation with Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as with other competent authorities in our country. The interlocutors also discussed the possibility of Bechtel’s participation in construction of the “peace highway” between Nis and Pristina.

Ambassador Djuric remarked that projects such as the Morava Corridor send a clear signal to investors that Serbia is a safe destination for business and project implementation. As he pointed out, the opening of the Regional Office of the International Development Financial Corporation (DFC) in Belgrade speaks in favor of that. DFC represents a significant incentive not only for Serbia, its citizens and our further economic growth, but also for the economy of the entire region.

The US company Bechtel is one of the world leaders in the field of engineering, construction and project management.

The contract on the construction of the Morava Corridor, i.e. the E-761 highway, the Pojate-Preljina section, was concluded on December 5, 2019 between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Bechtel-Enka Joint Venture in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

The Morava Corridor’s planned length is 112 kilometers, and, as the first digital highway in our country, it will encompass the area of roughly 500,000 population.
