The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Washington, Marko Đurić, is on a working visit to Antigua and Barbuda to hand over his credentials to Governor-General Rodney Williams.

As a personal guest of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Everly Paul Chet Greene, Ambassador Đurić attended today the central ceremony in St. John's on the occasion of marking the 40th anniversary of the independence of this Caribbean state.

On that occasion, he conveyed to his hosts the cordial congratulations and best wishes for the prosperity of the country and the well-being of the friendly people of Antigua and Barbuda.

A large number of high-ranking officials from the countries of the Caribbean region, South America and Europe attended the ceremonial parade and celebration of this jubilee at the Vivian Richards Stadium.

Antigua and Barbuda gained independence from Great Britain on 1 November 1981, and according to the state system, it is a constitutional parliamentary monarchy and a member of the British Commonwealth.
